The invention relates to a process for stabilizing the colour of orto-sec-butyl-phenol used as intermediary in chemical synthesis. According to the invention, the process consists in dosing 2-N-butyl-2-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) malonate of 1,2,2, 6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidinyl which is introduced as such or diluted in the freshly distiled product stream or in the transporting or storing vessels made of stainless steel, under nitrogen blanket.
