A trellis-based channel estimator/selector (210) estimates the impulse response of multiple channels based on the symbol received from the channels, and accordingly selects an optimal channel (231). A symbol detector detects the symbol transmitted through the optimal channel and updates the optimal channel based on the detected symbols. An Independent claim is also included for blind joint channel estimation method.
