PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and a control method thereof for keeping the properties such as the dynamic range of a signal to be reproduced constant independently of the kind of the optical disk. SOLUTION: The device is furnished with: optical disc driving devices 101, 102, an optical unit 103 for irradiating the optical disk 200 with a light beam to convert a signal of the reflected light beam intensity to an electrical signal; a means 107, 109 for performing the servo control so that the light beam is focused on the specified position of the optical disk 200; an RF means 108 for detecting the reflectivity of the optical disk in accordance with the electrical signal, detecting the offset component of the electrical signal and performing specified analog signal processing including the amplification of the electrical signal; and an arithmetic means 112 for deciding the amplification factor of the amplification of the electrical signal in accordance with the reflectivity and the offset component of the electrical signal. The RF means 108 is provided with such a constitution that the electrical signal is amplified with the amplification factor decided with the arithmetic means 112.
