PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a focus serve control system suitable for a multifocus optical pickup in which a plurality of combinations of focus S shape signal zero cross points and RF signal local maximum points appear. SOLUTION: A focus error S shape signal, an RF signal, and a wobbled tracking error signal are detected during a focus search operation, an authenticity of focusing is discriminated on the basis of information of the signals. A focus servo control is commenced under the condition that a correct focusing is conjected to be realized on the basis of the discriminated result of a discriminating means.
