PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring apparatus for the size of a flat-type wire, in which a wire width can be always be measured precisely, irrespective of whether the wire width is large or small. SOLUTION: The measuring apparatus comprises a pair of attitude-holding sheaves 3, 3 equipped with posture holding recess grooves 5 in groove bottom widths which are larger than the wire length W of the flat-type wire 1 and a pair of guidance sheaves 4, equipped with guidance bottom widths narrower than the groove bottom widths at the grooves 5 on the upstream side and the downstream side of the sheaves 3, 3. A laser measuring means 2 is arranged and installed in between the sheaves 3, 3, and the flat-type wire 1 is made to run in the vertical directions alternately on the guidance sheaves 4, 4 and the sheaves 3, 3.
