PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base station system for mobile communication that can recognize a cell in which a mobile station exists with a simple constitution and can improve the quality of communication transmitted to the mobile station by making the directivity of the antenna used for transmission from a transmitting base station to the mobile station changeable adaptively to the place. SOLUTION: In a service area constituted of the cell of the transmitting base station 1a and the cells of a plurality of receiving base stations 2a-2n smaller than the cell of the base station 1a, the mobile station 5 transmits a control signal 26 including its own information to the receiving base stations 2a-2n and the stations 2a-2n inform the base station 1a of the receiving levels of the control signal 26. The base station 1a can recognize the cell of one of the receiving base stations 2a-2n in which the mobile station 5 exists by comparing the received receiving levels with each other. The base station 1a improves the communication quality to the mobile station 5 by controlling transmission power and adjusting the directivity of the transmitting antenna based on the information on the cell of the receiving base station in which the station 5 exists.
