A water−absorbing agent containing a crosslinked polymer comprising as the essential constituent units a water−soluble vinyl monomer(a1)and/or a vinyl monomer(a2)which can be hydrolyzed into the monomer(a1)and a crosslinking agent(b)and satisfying the relationships(1)and(2);a process for production thereof;and absorbers and absorbent articles,made by using the water−absorbing agent:(Y)>−1.14(X)+69.5(1)(X)=((x1)2+4×(x2)2)1/2(2)[wherein(x1)is the quantity(g/g)of water held by the agent after one−hour immersion in physiological saline solution;(x2)is the quantity(g/g)of water absorbed under a load of 0.9psi by the agent after one−hour immersion in physiological saline solution;and(Y)is the flow rate(ml/min)of physiological saline solution under a load of 0.3psi through the agent after one−hour immersion in physiological saline solution].The water−absorbing agent enables easy production of absorbent articles exhibiting high absorption performance in any state,and is suitable for use in paper diapers,sanitary napkins,and other sanitary goods.
