PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical unit capable of surely preventing foreign matter from adhering to the emitting end face of an integrator rod and preventing the loss of light quantity, chromatic aberration and the damage of the emitting end face from being caused. SOLUTION: This optical unit is equipped with a mechanism for forming hermetically sealed space around the emitting end face of the integrator rod, and the entire emitting end face of the integrator rod is positioned in the hermetically sealed space. A plurality of plate members whose edges come into close- contact with the side surface of the integrator rod, whose surfaces come into close-contact with the part of the inner surface of a lens barrel in a direction crossing with the integrator rod, and whose surfaces come into close-contact with each other are used as a part of the mechanism for forming the hermetically sealed space.
