Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii) In a vacuum cleaner, the casing is formed of a dust container 6, an intermediate member 4 and a cover 1 carrying the motor-driven fan unit 2. The intermediate member 4 is secured by releasable clamps 3, 5 to the upper part 1 and the dust container 6 and also carries the filter holder 9. As shown in Fig. I, the lower end of the member 4 has a flange 11 which is held to a flange 12 on the holder 9 by a U-shaped flexible ring 13 which forms a seal on the container 6. The filter 8 is secured to the holder 9 and passes over a ring 21, secured to arms 20 carried by the holder 9, and is connected to a plate 16 which abuts the unit 2. When the cover is removed, the filter can be shaken by the handle 18. When the container 6 is removed, the remainder of the cleaner can be supported on the plate 16 or the extensions 14 can be lengthened to form supports. Alternatively the filter holder may be secured to the top of the member 4. One container 6 may be fitted with several filters and fan units each filter closing a hole in the holder 9 and in one form the rings 21 are carried by a frame which may be reciprocated by a member external to the casing. |
