Embossing die pair comprises a male mold (1) with an embossing surface having embossing elevations, and a female mold (2) with an embossing surface having embossing recesses corresponding to the embossing elevations. The male mold is fixed on a male mold roller (5) and the female mold is fixed on a female mold roller (6) in a peripheral and axial direction. The male mold and female mold are each provided with at least one positioning device (3, 4). The positioning devices are brought into alignment by at least one separate positioning element (29) so that the embossing elevations and the embossing recesses exactly engage in each other during the embossing process. An Independent claim is also included for a process for positioning the above embossing die pair. Preferred Features: The positioning device is a positioning recess in which the positioning element can engage.
