Process for working up organic components, especially materials of a shredder light fraction comprises thermally treating the organic components to produce a reduction gas for a blast furnace process. Preferred Features: The thermal treatment is carried out by the high temperature gasification of the organic components at 1500-2000 deg C. The organic components are thermally treated in the high temperature process so that the amount of reduction gas in the gas produced is 50-100%. The gas produced in the gasification process is directly fed to the blast furnace.
