The device is arranged between communications network segments and forwards amplified frequency modulated signals from a first segment to a further segment via transmitter/receiver modules. The transmitter/receiver and logic modules are housed in an intrinsically safe unit. The device is arranged between network segments (2,3) of a communications network and forwards amplified frequency modulated signals from a first segment to a further segment, whereby the signals are received and sent via a transmitter/receiver module (4,5). A first transmitter/receiver module is connected to a second via a logic module (6), through which the signals pass in frequency-modulated form and are forwarded to the transmitter/receiver module in frequency-modulated form. The transmitter/receiver and logic modules are housed in an intrinsically safe unit.
