Support roll for rotating drum or shaft furnace etc. is horizontally displaced during operation to even out wear over the rim of the drum resting on it and consists of a pressure roll fitted via bearings into a housing which is supported at three points by guide elements supported by universal joint bearings. One of the guide elements is attached to a mechanism for reciprocating the rollers horizontally so as to cause the required displacement.
