The high speed aircraft wing with an extending leading edge flap has that flap (2) when retracted fitting into the curved back (6) of a strip (3) constituting the wing leading edge with its high speed profile (7). This strip has a transverse hinge (5) at the back, connecting it to a flat panel (4) running its full length and in turn hinged (8) to the underside of the wing. This arrangement permits the strip to be tilted/lowered not only for extending or housing the flap but also, with the flap extended or housed, to improve the wing lift characteristic.
