A machine automatically prepares grilled doner kebab fast food meat on a spit, consisting of round thick slices alternating with round thin slices. The assembly has a carving knife which cuts meat into progressively larger discs, creating a conical form on the spit. Spits used are of varying length. The initial and final diameter of the conical profile are selected by a computer program in accordance with the target dimensions. The appropriate computer program is loaded at the beginning of each production cycle. The computer data regulates the operation of a meat pump supplying diced meat portions into a conical form containing an open wrapper. The diced portions applied become progressively larger. The meat spit rotates as additional layers are applied until the required length has been attained. The food is then weighed and the weight corrected as appropriate. A bush is then pressed into the centre of the spit and the wrapper is sealed.
