The method involves chopping and/or stopping the emitted light at least temporarily in order to distinguish between self-illuminating light and reflected lights. Illuminating objects can be detected using photosensors and automatic sensor evaluation or video acquisition and video evaluation. Independent claims are also included for the following: a device for automatic detection of illuminating objects in road traffic and a software program product for automatic detection of illuminating objects in road traffic.
