The method involves checking the plausibility of a fuel pressure value for regulating the pressure in a pressure tank (3) by comparing the actual fuel pressure value provided by a pressure sensor (7) with threshold values. If the value is outside the interval defined by the threshold levels a plausibility check comparison is made using oxygen content values from a lambda probe. AN Independent claim is also included for an injection system for an internal combustion engine.
