A process for preparing a ketone, an alcohol and/or a hydroperoxide is provided by reacting a hydrocarbon with molecular oxygen in the presence of a cyclic N-hydroxyimide and a compound of a transition metal, in which an oxygen-containing gas is supplied to the reaction system and at the same time a gas containing 1 to 10% by volume of oxygen is discharged from the reaction system. This process is excellent in productivity and safety and produces the desired products with a high selectivity.
