PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a softening agent having excellent compatibility especially with (meth)acrylic resins, viscosity stability and moldability and free from bleeding trouble, etc., even after melting and provide a resin composition compounded with the softening agent, a molded article containing the softening agent and a molded article made of the resin composition. SOLUTION: The softening agent is produced by the esterification reaction of (A) an alkylene oxide adduct of a polyhydric alcohol with (B) a monocarboxylic acid. The polyhydric alcohol (a-1) used as a raw material of the adduct A is a compound having 3-6 hydroxy groups in one molecule, the alkylene oxide (a-2) to be added to the polyhydric alcohol (a-1) is ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide and the monocarboxylic acid (B) used as a raw material of the agent contains 6-10 carbon atoms (excluding the carbon atom of the carboxy group). The resin composition at least contains the (meth)acrylic resin and the softening agent. The molded article contains the softening agent or is made of the resin composition.
