PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope which is an electronic endoscope consisting of a solid-stage imaging element having built-in filters and does not require the bothersome formation of white balance correction data at every use of the electrode endoscope after a thermal sterilization treatment. SOLUTION: This electronic endoscope 10 is furnished with the solid-stage imaging element 16 for monitoring color facing of a color filter into which a color filter CF60 of the characteristics equal to those of a color filter CF18 of the solid-stage imaging element for photography is built, in order to monitor the degree of the deterioration by the color fading of the above color filter. The white balance correction data for correcting the gains for amplifying the image signals of the respective colors of the color image signals obtained from the solid-stage imaging element for photography is formed. The color filter CF18 of the solid-stage imaging element for monitoring the color fading of the color filter is illuminated with white light and the correction data for the white balance correction data is formed in accordance with the color information signal obtained from the solid-stage imaging element for monitoring the color fading of the color filter.
