PURPOSE: To provide a method for easily producing a highly pure organic vanadium compound in a high yield. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a half vanadocene is characterized by reacting a vanadocene compound represented by the general formula: Cp2VX2 (Cp is at least one group selected from cyclopentadienyl, substituted cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, substituted indenyl, fluorenyl, substituted fluorenyl, benzoindenyl, substituted benzoindenyl, azulenyl and substituted azulenyl; X is at least one halogen selected from fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine) with chlorine gas.
