PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer equipped with a suction cap, which surely and smoothly discharges an ink accumulated in the suction cap after the sucking of the ink, and does not disturb a meniscus. SOLUTION: This ink jet printer performs a maintenance wherein the ink is sucked from a discharging port by covering a nozzle surface equipped with the discharging port of a recording head with the suction cap. To the suction cap, an ink sucking pipe and an atmosphere communicating pipe are connected. In this case, the ink sucking pipe is communicated with a sucking means which sucks the ink. The atmosphere communicating pipe communicates with the atmosphere, and is equipped with an atmosphere communicating opening/closing valve. At the same time, an ink-discharging pipe is connected to the suction cap as well. In this case, the ink-discharging pipe is equipped with an ink- discharging opening/closing valve, and is used to discharge the ink in the suction cap by a natural flowing down. |
