PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate and prevent clogging of the vicinity of orifices and to discharge ink stably by shifting piezoelectric elements to change a volume of ink channels or a common liquid chamber prior to the discharge at a recording sequence start time or the like, and oscillating orifice menisci. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recorder, the pressure in ink channels is suddenly changed by supplying a heat energy to ink in the ink channels by electrothermal converting elements set to a recording head and generating bubbles, thereby discharging ink from orifices to adhere to predetermined points of a member to be recorded. Piezoelectric elements are provided for changing the volume of ink channels in the recording head or the common liquid chamber for supplying the ink to the ink channels. Orifice menisci are oscillated by changing the volume of the ink channels or the common chamber by the piezoelectric elements.
