PURPOSE: A device and a method are provided to prevent food spoilage in a refrigerator by monitoring the temperature and useful life of the foodstuffs in the refrigerator and displaying the residual life of the foodstuffs. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the first step of setting management data for the foodstuffs stored in a specific area of a refrigerator, wherein the management data include the temperature and useful life of the foodstuffs; the second step of controlling the temperature of the specific area in accordance with the data set in the first step; the third step of checking the residual life of the foodstuffs in accordance with the data set in the first step; and the fourth step of displaying the residual life of the foodstuffs stored in the refrigerator.
