PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an icebreaker capable of reducing an impact to be applied to a hull when breaking ice without remodeling the hull of an ordinary vessel large. SOLUTION: This icebreaker 100 is provided with the hull 10, and a discharge breaking electrode 20 fitted to the hull 10 and to be put into the sea. The discharge breaking electrode 20 is fitted to the hull 10 to break the ice near the bow 13 by discharging electricity. The icebreaker 100 is also provided with a crane 30 having one end 30a fitted to an upper part 11 of the bow and the other end 30b separately positioned from the hull 10 in the bow 13 direction. The discharge breaking electrode 20 is suspended from the other end 30b of the crane 30 and put into the sea.
