APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COMBINING SOFT SYMBOLS IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for combining soft symbols in a mobile communication system is provided to combine the soft symbols by reflecting reliability weighting factors on soft outputs of plural demodulators. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of demodulators(410-1 to 410-N) are used for demodulating signals received from an inverse diffuser. A reliability weighting factor calculation block(503) outputs a predetermined reliability weighting factor in response to output signals of the demodulators. A reliability weighting factor control block(501) multiplies the soft outputs of the demodulators by the output of the reliability weighting factor calculation block and outputs the resultant. A soft symbol controller(502) is used for performing a soft symbol combining process for plural soft metrics and outputting the combined soft symbol to a turbo decoder(413).
