PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an insecticide having excellent efficacy. SOLUTION: This insecticide comprises a 1,3,5-triazine compound represented by formula (1) [R<1> a 3-7C alkynyl group which may be substituted with a halogen atom; R<2> is a halogen atom, a 1-4C alkyl group, a 1-3C haloalkyl group, a 1-4C alkoxy group, a 1-4C haloalkoxy group, a cyano group or a nitro group; n is an integer of 0-5; when n is an integer of >=2, R<2> s may be the same or different; A is a single bond, a CR<3> R<4> group, an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or an NR<5> group; R<3> and R<4> are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; R<5> is a 1-4C alkyl group or a hydrogen atom] as an active ingredient. This method for controlling insect pests comprises applying the effective amount of the 1,3,5-triazine compound represented by formula (1) to insect pests or an insect pest habitat.
