PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device to which an image reading device for eliminating the inconvenience of copying operation is connected. SOLUTION: The image recording device 1 comprises a facsimile function, a printer function, and so on that are controlled by CPUs 26 and 34. A hand scanner 2 is connected to the image recording device 1 via a communication cord (not shown) after an image is read. The image recording device 1 has a document sensor 29 for detecting the presence or absence of a document on the device, a copy button (not shown), and a sensor for detecting the connection of the image recording device and the communication cord. When the copy button is depressed, the presence or absence of a document on the device is detected. When a document is present, the document is copied, and when no document is present, the presence or absence of the connection is detected. When the connection is present, a document of the hand scanner is copied. Since a copy document is automatically selected, it is possible to eliminate the inconvenience of copying.
