PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing mosquito distortion included in a video signal that can be realized with a simple configuration at a low cost independently of a decoder. SOLUTION: This invention provides the method for reducing mosquito distortion characterized in that a filter coefficient for the video signal is varied by using a lookup table on the basis of a maximum value of a contour within a prescribed range at a noted point of the video signal and flatness around the noted point.
