PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image data of high quality by suppressing fluctuation in the amount of color shift in a page even when the speed for scanning an original changes. SOLUTION: Related to a color image scanner with which image data of each color for an original is obtained by scanning the original while light sources of a plurality of colors are lighted in order, lighting control circuits are provided for each color. A lighting starting time of the light source in a scanning period of one line is set as a reference value of a count value of a main counter 21 with a multiplexer 22, and the count value and the reference value are compared with each other with a timing generation circuit 24. When these become equal to each other, a programable counter 23 is made to start to count, and a lighting signal is put into an enable condition from the time by an lighting signal generation circuit 25 during a pre-set lighting period. Consequently, setting is done independently for each color while scanning is executed.
