PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix type display device which is unnecessary to supply, from an external device, a scanning operation clock signal to be inputted to a scanning drive circuit for driving scanning signal lines. SOLUTION: In the matrix type display device, display elements 15, a plurality of data signal lines 13 and plurality of scanning signal lines 14 for driving the display elements 15, and a data driving circuit 11 and a scanning drive circuit 12 for driving the data signal lines 13 and the scanning signal lines 14, are respectively formed on the same substrate. On the substrate, a scanning clock generation circuit 40 for generating scanning operation clock signals GCK1A, GCK2A to be outputted to the scanning drive circuit 12 using a data driving start signal SSP to be inputted to the data driving circuit 11.
