PURPOSE: A device of detecting an RSSI(Receive Signal Strength Indicator) of a base station receiver and a method therefor are provided to map a value of a nonlinear section with a value of a linear section one to one when a receive signal less than certain strength is inputted, and to expand a receive signal detecting area, thereby extracting an exact RSSI detection voltage. CONSTITUTION: An RF signal processor(501) extracts an RF signal from a noise-removed signal. A mixer(502) frequency-downs the RF signal, and converts the RF signal into an IF signal. A distributor(503) distributes the IF signal. An IF signal processor(504) processes the first distribution signal into an IF. A baseband processor(505) frequency-downs an output signal of the IF signal processor(504), and converts the output signal into a baseband signal. An RSSI processor(506) detects strength of the second distribution signal from the distributor(503). A digital signal processor(507) decides receive signal strength from the detected signal strength, and converts into a value of a linear section if the signal strength is a value of a nonlinear section, then outputs the converted value as an AGC control voltage of many voltage control amplifiers of the IF signal processor(504).
