PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter/receiver for bidirectional optical wavelength division multiplex transmission system in which improvement is attained in costs and efficiency by utilizing the cyclic property of AWG (arrayed wave guide). SOLUTION: In the optical transmitter/receiver for bidirectional optical multiplex transmission system, in a first optical signal and a second optical signal, respective wavelengths are set as a set of wavelengths satisfying the cyclic property of the wavelength passing area of the AWG, the optical transmitter is provided with a wide band light source for emitting optical signals over a prescribed wavelength range including the respective wavelengths of optical signals corresponding to the first optical signal and a wide band pass filter for limiting a band in respect to the first optical signal so as not to pass the second optical signal to become the set of wavelengths satisfying the cyclic property of the wavelength passing area of the AWG from the optical signals in the prescribed wavelength range emitted from the wide band light source, passing the first optical signal and guiding it to the AWG for multiplexing, and the optical receiver receives the second optical signal demultiplexed by the AWG. |
