PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a charging and discharging control method managing a state detected data of a block (block battery) constituting a cell or a number of cells does not improve the life when Pb-Ca alloy grid is used for a positive electrode plate, in a battery installation or a battery apparatus using a battery pack constituted by combining plural batteries. SOLUTION: In the charging and discharging control method, the life of the battery pack constituted of the batteries is largely improved and stabilized when the following component(s) is/are applied separately or in combination: (1) positive electrode active material density is 4.00 g/cm<3> or less; (2) relative density of electrolyte is 1.28 (20 deg.C) or more; (3) the rate of a positive electrode grid mass to a positive electrode active material mass is 1.0 or less; (4) the rate of the positive electrode active material mass to a negative electrode active material mass is 1.5 or less; and (5) an expanded metal grid is used for an positive electrode grid.
