PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL display device capable of greatly increasing the tolerance of dislocation in forming a film over a substrate as a drawing pad part. SOLUTION: Anode lines made from ITO are formed in stripes on the glass substrate 1 and meandering barrier ribs 4 and 4A are formed to protrude over the substrate. Next, an EL material layer and a metallic layer 6 are formed in order by, e.g. vapor deposition means, whereby the metallic layer 6 is separated by the barrier ribs 4 to form cathode lines 6a, 6b and 6c in the shape of stripes. Finally, the drawing pad part 7 for electrical connection to the cathode lines is formed. Even if the position where the drawing pad part 7 is formed is moved relative to the cathode lines and the drawing pad part 7 is formed across adjacent cathode lines, it is separated by the meandering barrier ribs 4 and 4A to prevent short circuits between the adjacent cathode lines.
