PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress thermal asperity which causes base line fluctuation of a reproducing signal regarding a magnetic disk device, and a magneto-resistive effect head used for a magnetic recording device such as a magnetic tape device or the like. SOLUTION: This device includes a first magnetic shield layer 56, a magneto- resistive effect element 58 formed across a first gap on the first magnetic shield layer 56, a second magnetic shield layer 62 formed across a second gap on the magneto-resistive effect element 58, and an element Rsm having a negative resistance coefficient which is formed between the first magnetic shield layer 56 and the second magnetic shield layer 62 and near the magneto-resistive effect element 58.
