APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REDUCING NITRATE USING CHEMICALS

PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for reducing nitrate and nitrite in sewage into nitrogen gas using chemicals are provided. CONSTITUTION: The method includes the steps of injecting a catalytic agent into a first mixing tank(2) into which raw sewage is introduced; introducing the sewage including the catalytic agent into a first reaction tank(4) where the sewage come into contact with a galvanized cathode plate(13) so that nitrogen gas generated by reaction between zinc and nitrate/nitrite is stripped to the atmosphere; applying electric power to the first reaction tank to make ionized zinc migrate onto the cathode plate after reaction between zinc and nitrate/nitrite; introducing the sewage from the first reaction tank to a second mixing tank(5), followed by injecting catalytic agent into thereinto; introducing the sewage including the catalytic agent into a second reaction tank(8) where the sewage come into contact with a galvanized cathode plate so that nitrogen gas generated by reaction between zinc and residual nitrate/nitrite is stripped to the atmosphere; applying electric power to the second reaction tank to make ionized zinc migrate onto the cathode plate after reaction between zinc and residual nitrate/nitrite; and neutralizing the sewage.
