The femoral rod for a hip prosthesis has a foot (1) with the proximal end formed as a frustum (4). An insert (5) has a seating (6) complementary to the proximal end, a cylindrical outer surface and an annular shoulder (8). A hemispherical cap (20) has a cylindrical cavity (21) and a flat. The insert has an annular crown at one end (24) with a diameter in a plane perpendicular to the axis (9). Claims include a method of making the prosthesis.
