PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication system in which the utilization cost of a communication line can be reduced by reducing the utilization time thereof and an intricate time consuming image processing can be carried out. SOLUTION: A control section 12 stores image data received through a communicating section 11 in a storage section 13, performs conversion processing using the received image data as original data, stores transmission candidate image data obtained through each conversion processing while associating with the original data. Subsequently, the control section 12 connects a communication line with the transfer destination, acquires information concerning to the receiving capacity of the transfer destination, selects any one of the original data or the transmission candidate image data associated therewith based on the information, and transmits the selected image data to the transfer destination.
