The connection component comprises a cavity (12) supporting a length of flexible cable. Needles which are mounted horizontally can be pushed into the length of cable, thus making contact with the conductors. Connection is thus established with the conductors in an unbroken length of bus cable. The component for connection to a communication bus comprises a body (10) with a cavity (12) which is able to support a length of flexible cable. The cavity includes inwardly projecting ribs (14,15) which are able to retain the cable once it has been inserted. Within the block of the body, there are needles mounted horizontally, but these are initially sufficiently retracted to allow insertion of the cable. Once the cable is in place a pushrod (32), mounted vertically and projecting from the top of the body, is pushed downwards, causing the needles to be pushed horizontally into the length of cable, thus making contact with the conductors. The pushrod acts on a cam surface, in order to move the contact needles horizontally.
