PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assembled type magnetic tape device which diagnoses deterioration of a bar code label to improve the read success rate of retry operation and to provide a bar code reading method using this device. SOLUTION: The assembled type magnetic tape device is provided with cartridges 6 for storing recording mediums like magnetic tapes, a storage box 7 for storing a plurality of cartridges, an access mechanism 2 for transporting the cartridges, a motor 3 for driving the access mechanism, an access mechanism control part 5 for controlling the access mechanism and the motor, a bar code reader 1 for reading bar code labels stuck to the cartridges, and a bar code reader read control part 4 for controlling the bar code reader. In the case of a failure in reading the bar code label, retry control including read sensitivity adjustment for the bar code label is performed, and it is informed that bar codes requiring the read sensitivity adjustment should be changed, thus preventing failures in reading. |
