PURPOSE: A steel cord of a pneumatic radial tire is provided to improve durability of the tire by preventing corrosion, separation of a belt layer, core migration with penetrating the core with rubber stably, to reduce the weight of the tire by forming the thin belt layer, and to increase the lateral stiffness by forming the oval section of the cord. CONSTITUTION: A steel cord of a pneumatic radial tire is composed of two core filaments and five sheath filaments. Two core filaments are arranged in parallel without twisting to restrict structural displacement, and surrounded by five sheath filaments. The diameter of the core filament is 0.18-0.30mm, and the diameter of the sheath filament is 0.22-0.40mm. The rate of core filament diameter to sheath filament diameter is within the range of 0.50-0.85, and the twisting length of sheath filament is within the range of 10.0-20.0mm. The durability of the tire is improved by preventing corrosion, separation or fretting with sticking rubber to the cord firmly, and stability in cornering is improved by increasing lateral stiffness with the oval section of the cord.
