PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize at low costs both of a disk drive capable of DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW recording and a disk drive capable of DVD-R, and DVD-RW recording. SOLUTION: Address information is detected from ADIP taking one ECC block period, and decides an address corresponding to the ECC block. An address code to be loaded on LPP is converted according to the decided address. The converted LPP takes one block period before being outputted. These functions are collectively arranged in a single semiconductor device (LSI). An LPP output from an ADIP-LPP conversion means is inputted to an encoder LSI in which a circuit for detecting the address information from LPP and an encode processing circuit for generating and modulating an error correcting code, or the like are in corporated. The encode LSI determines a recording position by a circuit for detecting the address information from LPP, and outputs encoded digital data and writes the data to a medium.
