PURPOSE: An encryption and decryption device is provided to reduce a resource use of a host system in an encryption or decryption process, to hide the encryption or decryption process, and to intelligently decide the type of received data. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises an interceptor(431), a main controller(432), a data generation controller(433), a data storage controller(434), a data encryption-decryption engine(436), and an input buffer(435). The main controller(432) determines whether the incoming data, generated by a data generator(41) and intercepted the interceptor(431), has to be encrypted/decrypted or passed. When the data generation controller(433), the data storage controller(434), and the data encryption-decryption engine(436) are notified of the incoming data, the data generation controller transmits or receives the control signals, and plays a role of an interface between the encryption and decryption system and the data generator(41). In other words, a communication mode is determined by an interface of the data generator(41). Similarly the data storage controller(434) transmits or receives the control signals, and plays a role of an interface between the encryption and decryption system and a data storage device(42), so plural communication modes can be included when set data is being encrypted or decrypted in response to a control signal of the main controller(432).
