PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable-length packet exchanger that provides high throughput by shortening a period of time when a transmitting means provided with a transmitting part is free. SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of receiving parts 1 is provided with a plurality of transmission corresponding parts 7 connected corresponding to each of a plurality of transmitting parts 2 respectively, and a packet switching means 8 for selecting a packet received by the receiving parts in accordance with header information to selectively output the packet to one of the plurality of transmission corresponding parts. Each of the plurality of transmission corresponding parts has a storing means 3 for storing the packet outputted by the packet switching means and outputting the stored packet to the transmitting parts 2 on the basis of a packet output instruction, and a packet length information transmitting means 5 for generating packet length information on the basis of the length of the packet stored by the storing means to transmit the packet length information to the transmitting parts. The each of a plurality of transmitting parts is provided with an output instructing means 6 for instructing the transmission corresponding parts to accept or reject a packet output to the transmission corresponding parts in accordance with the packet length information.
