PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure detection method and a program for charging and discharging device capable of detecting generation of failure in a short time, in combining a plurality of types of control modes for charging and discharging. SOLUTION: In this failure detection method for charging and discharging device, any of control elements of current, voltage and power is controlled in accordance with a target value, and at least one of charging or discharging of a given storage battery is controlled by a combination of the plurality of control modes. This failure detection method consists of a step S13 of identifying control modes of respective points in time, a step S19 of inspecting a measurement value of an element to be controlled of the current, the voltage and the power, based on the target value corresponding to the current control mode, a step S17 of detecting a variation in a measurement value of an element not to be controlled, of the current, the voltage and the power, and the step S17 of inspecting the variation corresponding to the present control mode.
