PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which is capable of covering the low output of a perpendicular resonant surface light emitting laser diode and its life that is shortened when an enhanced drive current is applied. SOLUTION: As shown in Figure 1 (A), 16 vertical cavity surface emitting laser diodes (VCSEL) 2 are arranged in a narrow range such as a 4×4 lattice much smaller in area than the end face of an optical fiber 3 in a light emitting device 1. As shown in Figure 1 (B), 16 VCSELs arranged on the light emitting device 1 each transmit optical signals in the same direction. As mentioned above, the 16 VCSELs 2 are arranged, concentrating in a range much narrower in area than the end face of the optical fiber 3, so that nearly all optical signals generated by the light emitting device 1 are made to impinge on the end face of the optical fiber 3 and transmitted even if optical signals projected from each of VCSELs 2 spread wide as shown by dotted lines in Figure 1 (B).
