PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to prevent the rise in the thickness of the LCD while securing sufficient light intensity and obtain uniform light distribution over the entire surface of a light guide panel. The influence on environmental parts is minimized by distributing the heat generated by lamps. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a backlight assembly(1100), a display unit(200) mounted on the light guide panel for displaying images, and top and bottom chassis(100,1000). The backlight assembly includes a lamp unit(700) for generating light, a light guide panel(800) having a light projecting surface, a light reflecting surface for reflecting light to the light projecting surface, and an incident surface for connecting the projecting surface with the reflecting surface, a mold frame(500) formed of side walls and a bottom surface and having an opening in the center of the bottom surface for receiving the lamp unit and the light guide panel, a reflecting plate(900) mounted to a rear surface of the light guide panel for reflecting leakage light from the light guide panel and formed with at least one or more first guide grooves at an end, and optical sheets(300) mounted on the light guide panel for controlling the luminance of the light projected from the light guide panel. The bottom chassis is coupled with the mold frame for preventing the deviation of the lamp unit, the light guide panel and the reflecting plate from the mold frame and has at least one or more second guide holes, and the top chassis is coupled with the bottom chassis for fixing the display unit to the mold frame. The lamp unit is located between the light guide panel and the side walls of the mold frame for surrounding the light guide panel.
