<p>The link layer (68, 64) of the sending end of a wireless link (66) is enhanced (10, 74) by providing a mechanism for discriminating (36, 38; 79, 82) between special, critical or otherwise important packets from among a plurality of packets sent over the wireless link. Special link layer treatment (42; 89) is accorded to such special, critical or otherwise important packets, while the remaining packets are subjected to normal link layer treatment (44; 86) before transmission over the wireless link.</p> |
