The invention relates to a simplified and rapid method for the isolation of nucleic acids, in particular plasmid DNA from E. coli, whereby after alkaline lysis of the sample, the above is neutralised with a salt of a carboxylic acid and the resulting mixture then brought into contact with a silica matrix in the presence of an alcohol.
